Keep

Record a voice note and get a cleaned-up Markdown note.

Press record in Keep and talk for up to 30 minutes. Keep transcribes the recording, removes filler words and false starts, adds punctuation and paragraphs, and saves the result as a note. The exact words you said stay in the note history.

Voice notes are included with Personal for $10/month. Each recording can run for up to 30 minutes.

Voice note after the onboarding call with Dana at Harbor

Voice note after the onboarding call with Dana at Harbor. Three things came out of it.

First, the import step is where people get stuck. She tried the OPML upload twice before she realised it wanted the exported file, not the feed URL.

Second, they want the Mac app to open on the Notes page, not Saved. She has about forty notes and reads maybe two articles a week.

Third, and this is the big one, she asked if a connected agent can add to a note without overwriting it. I said yes and pointed her at the Agent edits view.

To do: write up the import fix as a note, link it to the OPML docs page, and check with Tom whether the default landing page is a setting we can expose before the release on the twelfth.

How to record a voice note from Capture → Voice.

Recording starts as soon as your browser grants microphone access. Pause when you need to, stop when you are done, then save. Keep does the transcription and cleanup on its servers, so your device does nothing after the upload.

  1. 01

    Select Capture → Voice

Press Command Shift C on macOS or Control Shift C on Windows and Linux, or select Capture in the app header. Select Voice and allow microphone access when the browser asks. Recording starts as soon as the microphone is ready.

  2. 02

    Talk, then press Stop

The timer and level meter show that Keep is recording, and recording carries on if you switch to another tab. Pause and Resume skip the gap. Press Stop when you are done, then Play to check the recording or Record again to start over.

  3. 03

    Save the voice note

Select Save voice note. Keep opens the new note and shows Transcribing your voice note, then Cleaning up the transcript. The editor opens when the cleaned version is ready, usually within a few seconds for a short recording.

What people record in Keep.

A voice note is a normal Keep note with the voice tag. It has properties, links to saved items, revision history, and agent access like any other note.

  1. A debrief after a call

Talk through what was decided and what is still open while it is fresh. Keep splits it into short paragraphs and drops the ums.

  2. A first draft

Dictate the rough version of a post, brief, or reply, then edit it in the note editor. Say “new paragraph” or “bullet point” and Keep writes the formatting instead of the words.

  3. Thoughts on a saved article

Record what you think of an article, thread, or video, then link the note to the saved item so the source sits next to your notes on it.

04.

The raw transcript stays in the note history after the audio is deleted.

The note history starts with the raw transcript. The cleaned version is revision 2, so you can compare the two or restore the raw text at any time.

Questions about voice notes in Keep.

How long can a voice note be?

Up to 30 minutes of recorded time per note. Paused time does not count. The recorder warns you as you approach the limit and stops at 30 minutes.

Does Keep store the audio?

No. Keep uploads the recording, transcribes it, and deletes the audio once the transcript is ready. You can play the recording back before you save it, but not afterwards.

What does the cleanup change?

It removes filler words such as um and uh, repairs false starts, adds punctuation and capitalisation, and splits the text into short paragraphs. It keeps your wording, meaning, numbers, links, and technical terms. It does not add headings, lists, or a summary unless you dictated them.

Which browsers can record?

Current versions of Chrome, Edge, Firefox, and Safari. Recording carries on if you switch to another tab. The Keep Mac app asks for microphone access the first time you record.

Is this the same as uploading an audio file?

No. A voice note is recorded in Keep and becomes a note. Capture → Audio uploads an MP3, M4A, or WAV file up to 100 MB and saves the transcript as an item in Saved. Both require Personal.

Can I record voice notes on Starter?

You can create a Starter account for free. Voice notes require Personal, which costs $10/month. If a transcription fails, the note says so and you can record a new voice note to try again.
