## How to convert a YouTube transcript to Markdown

1.  Copy the URL of one public YouTube video.
2.  Paste the URL into the converter.
3.  Select **Get transcript**.
4.  Review the transcript, then copy it or download the `.md` file.

## What the transcript file contains

The Markdown includes the video title and source link. The available transcript follows with timestamps. The tool does not summarize or rewrite the transcript.

Captions can contain mistakes, especially for names, technical terms, or several speakers. Check important text against the video before you quote it.

## Use one video URL

Standard watch links, YouTube share links, and Shorts links are supported. Channel pages and playlist pages do not identify one transcript, so they are not supported.

## When a transcript is not available

-   The video has no captions.
-   The video is private, removed, or restricted.
-   YouTube does not make the captions available.
