## How to convert a screenshot to Markdown

1. Select **Take a screenshot** and choose a screen, window, or tab. You can also paste or upload an existing screenshot.
2. Select **Convert to Markdown**.
3. Check the source and rendered preview for reading order and formatting.
4. Copy the Markdown or download the `.md` file.

## Keep the structure, not the pixels

A screenshot is easy to capture but hard to search or edit. The converter reads visible text and tries to rebuild headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, and code blocks. The result is plain Markdown that works in docs, wikis, Git repositories, notes, and agent context.

Use it for product notes, documentation, slide excerpts, research, error messages, chat excerpts, and small data tables. For photos, scans, diagrams, and other image files, use the broader [image to Markdown converter](https://keep.md/tools/image-to-markdown).

## Crop before you convert

A tight crop improves reading order and removes text that you do not want. Cut out browser tabs, toolbars, sidebars, notifications, and repeated navigation. Keep the screenshot at its original resolution when small text matters.

## Check complex output

- Tables with merged cells can need simpler rows and columns.
- Code needs a check for punctuation, indentation, and wrapped lines.
- Multi-column layouts can be read in the wrong order.
- Small, blurred, or low-contrast text can be missed.
- Icons and visual elements can produce a short description rather than exact text.

## Use the result as agent context

Copy the Markdown into ChatGPT, Claude, Codex, Cursor, or another agent. You can also download it into a project or keep it with your notes. Use the [token counter](https://keep.md/tools/token-counter) to see how much context the result will use.
